May 26, 2009About the workshops
May 1, 2009The Black Lily Girls’ Workshops is a project of Black Lily, Inc. and the Black Lily Film & Music Festival for Women funded by The Valentine Foundation. The Workshops are a series of skills-building seminars designed to create a supportive and inspiring environment to encourage young women to enter the technical fields of music and filmmaking. Girls will choose one of two tracks—Music or Film. Each workshop will consist of no more than 10 girls.
Workshop benefits:
- Taught by industry professionals.
- Full access to state-of-the-art production facility and equipment.
- DVD of completed project.
The Girls’ Workshop provides a safe space for young women to access specific technologies they are often excluded from while also empowering them to reframe their relationship to technology in general. This exciting, all-new program introduces girls to the tools and skills needed to write, produce, and record original music and develop, shoot, and edit a music video.

Location: Asian Arts Initiative, 1219 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
